A delegation, consisting of several teachers from the American University of Kurdistan (AUK) in Duhok visited Sharya Camp on the 29th of October, 2018. The purpose of the visit was, to observe the circumstances of the IDPs from close by and to get to know what the schools at the camp need and wat the needs of the camp are in general (concerning WASH for example).
At Kabarto 1 Camp 100 gifts were distributed among the children (younger than 12 yrs of age) at the camp that have been freed from ISIS and others special needs. Vina organization made this possible, in cooperation with the management of the camp on the 24th of October, 2018. This was done for the purpose of supporting the children.
On the 21st of October, the distribution of food an cleaning items started. A representative of the Iraqi Ministery of Migration and Displacement stated that more than 62,000 cardboard boxes containing food items and cleaning items will be distributed among all IDP camps in the province of Duhok. The manager of Chamishko Camp, Mr. Mamon Yahya stated that there are 5,013 families at Chamishko Camp and that each family will receive 2 boxes of food items and 2 boxes of cleaning items.
The general manager of the directorate of education, Mr. Omar Ali Taha, visited Esyan Camp on the 17th of October, 2018. During the meeting at the camp, with the camp manager, they spoke about the circumstances of the education at the camp. After that the general manager of the directorate of education had a meeting with the directors of the schools at Esyan Camp, to observe the circumstances of the education at the camp from close by and to get to know what their needs are concerning the schools.
A team of Chinese and Korean dentists treated the the IDPs at Chamishko Camp with the purpose of improving their health. The campaign at Chamishko Camp came to an end on the 18th of October, 2018. In three days they had treated about 400 individuals. They are planning to also visit several other camps to continue the treatment of IDPs.
IOM had organized several courses for the IDPs in cooperation with the management of Dawidiya Camp, for the purpose of creating job opportunities for the IDPs. The courses consisted of: hairdressing, sewing and a volleyball tournament was organized as well. The courses took about 1 month and came to an end on the 16th of October, 2018.
Under the supervision of Mr. Ferhad Amin, the governor of Duhok,and in the presence of the head of the German SEZ, a representative of the German Caritas and Nelly Erdman, the manager of the project, the finished solar power project was presented in an official ceremony on the 10th of October, 2018. The project was made possible by the aforementioned parties and costed around €600,000. About 375 KW will be made available to 3,000 families at Mamrashan Camp.
