A cabin at Dawidiya Camp caught fire due to an electrical heater on the 31st of January, 2018. This caused 6 cabins to be burned to the ground and the residents lost their possessions in the process. The good news is that no lives were lost in the accident.
At Chamishko Camp they started a campaign to raise awareness around the dangers of fire and the regulations on how to extinguish fires on the 31st of January, 2018.
In cooperation with the management of Bersivy 2 Camp and UNICEF, the Health Awareness team of Duhok started a campaign of health awareness at the camp on the 30th of January, 2018.
The management of Khanky Camp and the Center of the Development of Youth in the district of Kanky, awarded the top students of each grade on the 30th of January, 2018. The students received gifts in the presence of the teachers, students and the management of the camp.
On the 28th of January a seminar was given at Shekhan Camp on “violence is not the answer”. During the seminar the speaker spoke on how to stop violence against women. The seminar was organized by the youth center in the district of Shekhan in cooperation with the management of the camp.
BRHA held a meeting with several international organizations on the education at the camps on the 28th of January, 2018. During the meeting they spoke on how to manage and improve the education at the camps. They also spoke about providing the schools with kerosene and stationery.
In cooperation with the management of Bersivy 1 Camp, Qandil distributed several items for the winter (blankets and heaters) among the newly weds (114 families) at the camp on the 23rd of January, 2018.
In cooperation with BRHA; UNICEF and BCF started the distribution winter clothing at Chamishko Camp on the 23rd of January, 2018. About 10,000 cardboard boxes of winter clothing will be distributed among the children and pregnant women.
In order to support the refugees from Syria (western part of Kurdistan) in the province of Duhok, a project has started of building 150 houses and the maintenance of 1,450 houses at Domiz 1 Camp and Domiz 2 Camp. The project will be done by UNHCR, under the supervision of BRHA. This project was started on the 28th of December, 2017 and will take about 5 months to be completed.
