A child birth center was opened at Kabartu 1 camp under the supervision and with the cooperation of BRHA. Of those who were present at the opening were, a representative of BRHA, the general director of health of the province of Duhok, the representatives of GIZ, IMC and UNFPA, and a number of foreign and local organizations that work at the camp. The center has been opened for both Kabartu 1 camp as well as Kabartu 2 camp. About 4,800 families at both camps will benefit from this center.
The child birth center has been opened by GIZ and the organizations IMC and UNFPA will be providing services at the center to the IDPs.
To continue the process of distributing kerosene among the IDPs that live inside and outside the camps, kerosene was distributed, under the supervision of BRHA, among the residents of the camps on the 18th of May 2016.
The process of distributing kerosene among the IDPs living outside the camps is also an ongoing process that hasn’t stopped.
In the presence of Mr. Ismail Mohamed Ahmed, the governor’s assistant in IDP and refugee affairs and the mayor of Aqra, a delegation of journalists from the European Union countries was welcomed. The aim behind their visit was to get to know the situation of the IDPs and refugees from close by, to visit several IDP and refugee camps and to be able to create several documentaries about the lives of the IDPs and refugees. After that, the governor’s assistant and the delegation went to visit the sports center. And they got to know how the monetary aid is going, that is given instead of food, by the organizations CRS and WFP to the IDPs living outside the camps.
On the 15th of May 2016, the process of applying pesticides at all IDP and refugee camps had started. The project is being actualized in cooperation with BRHA, the directorate of health protection of Duhok and with the support of the German organization GIZ.
The project started at Domiz 1 camp, in the presence of Mr. Idrees Nabi Saalih, the executive director of BRHA; Dr. Bakhtiyar, the director of the directorate of health protection of Duhok and the representatives of some local and foreign organizations.
It is worth mentioning, that this project takes place every year, in order to protect the IDPs and refugees from harmful animals.
After fire extinguishers had been distributed among the IDPs of Esyan camp, a training seminar was given by an employee of the Forest Protection unit of Shekhan. The management of the camp had distributed about 600 fire extinguishers among the IDPs, in cooperation with the German Red Cross. The training seminar gave insight on how to protect oneself from fire and how to extinguish it using the fire extinguisher.
In the presence of Mr. Maazn Mohamed, the mayor of Aqra and under the supervision of BRHA, the organizations GIZ, UNICEF and ZIEN distributed school clothes among 1,312 students, who live outside the camps.
This charity was made available by the European Union and the organizations GIZ and the IDP committee in Aqra.
In the presence of Mr. Ismail Mohamed Ahmed, the governor’s assistant in IDP and refugee affairs; Mr. Idrees Nabi Saalih, the executive director of BRHA; the head of education of Semel; a number of governmental agencies and a number of members of the Iraqi parliament, a number of services were made available at Domiz 2 camp.
They started with the opening of a school consisting of 12 classrooms. Many of the residents of the camp attended the opening. The governor’s assistent gave a speech and told the people that were prestent, that these projects are a service of the province of Duhok, with the help of a number of organizations. And that they will continue to aid and assist the refugees of Rojava (Syria). He also said that they will be doing some other projects too, like the expansion of the water network of the camp.
The services that were made available and the projects that were started were, the school consisting of 12 classrooms, an internet center, the building of a storage room for the seminar hall, a condolence hall, a place from where food will be distributed, an ambulance, a power generator and a small bus for transporting sick people. About 1400 families at the camp will benefit from these services and projects.
Under the supervision of BRHA, the management of Chamishko camp and with the help of the managements of the schools at Chamishko camp, a basketball tournament was held for about 15 teams and about 90 players.
After the last game of the tournament, the tournament came to an end on the 8th of May 2016. Gifts were awarded to the teams that had placed first and second.
Because of the coming summer and the hot weather, summer clothing was distributed among the IDP students and families of Esyan camp. The management of the camp distributed the clothing in cooperation with BRHA and with the help of the organization named SAIWAN. About 350 sets were distributed among the students of the camp and about 2700 sets among the families of the camp.
On the 9th of May 2016 a photography exhibition was held at Bersivy 2 camp. This happened in the presence of Mr. Ismail Mohamed, the governor’s assistant in IDP and refugee affairs; Mr. Idrees Nabi Saalih, the executive director of BRHA and the director of the municipality of Darkar.
At this exhibition the daily lives of the residents of the camp was shown in the form of 40 pictures (in the size of 40 x 30 cm). The exhibition was held by the management of the camp, with the help of WORLD VISION, S.O.S.D, Malteser and HARIKAR.
