A meeting took place between the representatives of BRHA and a delegation of the organization WFP (World Food Programme). They spoke about the current operations, and the projects that have been completed and implemented by WFP at the IDP and refugee camps.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Ismail Mohamed Ahmed, the assistant of the governor of Duhok in IDP and refugee affairs, Mr. Idrees Nabi Saalih, the executive director of BRHA, and Mrs Laylan Mohamed Saalih, the director of BRHA programmes and a delegation of WFP organization.
Mr. Ismail, the governor’s assistant in IDP and refugee affairs praised the organization and hopes that WFP will do more projects, to serve the IDPs and Refugees in the province of Duhok in an even better way in the future.
It is obvious, that the board of relief and humanitarian affairs (BRHA) plays an important role in serving and providing aid and assistance to the host community, the IDPs and the refugees in and outside the camps of the province of Duhoke. The board has been able to provide the government agencies of Duhok with 400 heaters and an ambulance.
In a statement, Mr. Ismail Mohamed Ahmed, the assistant of the governor of Duhok in IDP and refugee affairs, claimed that BRHA has managed, in cooperation with the organization Rabita Islamia, to provide the directorate of education with 400 heaters and the directorate of health with an ambulance vehicle . These contributions will soon be received and used by the mentioned directorates.
In a collaboration between UNICEF and BRHA (the board of relief and humanitarian affairs) over 753,000 kilograms of water hygiene products have been given to the directorate of water of the province of Duhok and the directorate of water of the surrounding areas.
According to Mr. Ismail Mohamed Ahmed, the governor’s assistant of Duhok in IDP and refugee affairs, these products consist of chlorine, chlorine gas, calcium, aluminum phosphate, chlorine powder and other products, with a total cost of $703,000. The governor’s assistant also mentioned, that the companies that have the responsibility to apply these products within the province of Duhok and surrounding areas, will start the operation soon. And all issues related to this matter have been planned to be solved within one year.
Moreover, QANDIL has contributed $16,000 to the farmers of Shekhan, for products concerning rodent control. According to Mr. Ismail Mohamed Ahmed, the directorate of agriculture in Shekhan distributed the rodent control products amongst the local farmers , which led to their issues being solved.
In addition, Mr. Ismail Mohamed Ahmed stated, that in the near future several other projects will be done for the other involved directorates of the province of Duhok. This will happen in cooperation with some of the international organizations. And the goal is, to be able to serve the host community, the IDPs and the refugees in a better way. One of these important projects is, the provision of a specialized vehicle for sanitation purposes in the province of Duhok.
On the 19th of March 2016, the IDP camp Mamrashan received a German delegation consisting of the German parliament member Mr. Serdar Yüksel, the head of the organization CARITAS, Mr. Jan Jessen, the former head of CARITAS, Mr. Rudy Roffelsen, a journalist from the news magazine “Der Spiegel” and some media agencies from Germany. The delegation was welcomed by Mr Ismail Mohamed Ahmed, the assistant of the governor in IDP and refugee affairs and Sheikh Serdar, the mayor of Shekhan.
Mr. Ismail Mohamed Ahmed expressed his excitement over the visit and expressed his appreciation towards the German authorities, for the support they have been giving to Mamrashan camp.
Mr. Serdar Yüksel, the German PM, expressed, that the German authorities are thankful towards the province of Duhok, for receiving such a large number of IDPs and refugees. And he showed his appreciation for the support the province of Duhok has provided them with. After that Mr. Jan Jessen, head of Caritas, mentioned that, in the near future, Mamrashan camp will receive health, education and food services, including some garbage trucks and 15 kiosks. At last, the governor’s assistant showed the delegation around the camp, so they could see the living conditions of the IDPs themselves.
On the16th of March 2016, Mr. Ismail Muhammad Ahmad, the governor’s assistant in IDP and refugee affairs, welcomed D. Frisca, the new head of the German organization GIZ, in Duhok. They talked about the future plans of the organization and the job opportunities for the youth in the province.
The assistant of the governor of the province of Duhok asked the organization GIZ to help strengthening the fundamentals of the province and thus expand their activities, because the people residing in the province are having difficulties coping with the large amount of IDPs and Refugees that have fled to the province.
The president of GIZ announced, that in the interest of creating job opportunities for the youth in the province of Duhok, they have put aside $40,000,000. He said: a commission consisting of 5 people, assigned to this project, will come to the province of Duhok next week.
Until now, the german organization GIZ has done several projects in the field of education, health and WASH in the province of Duhok.
In a collaboration between BRHA and UNICEF, financial support was given to teachers in the province of Duhok. This activity took place in the presence of the governor’s assistant in IDP and Refugees affairs, Mr. Ismail Mohamed Ahmed, the mayor of Duhok, Mr. Jehwar Aziz, the executive director of BRHA, Mr. Idrees Nabi Saalih and the general director of education, Mr. Abd Yusef.
Due to the current economic crisis in Kurdistan, UNICEF and BRHA provided the teachers, who have to travel outside the province of Duhok to do their job, with financial support. The goal for this project was, to encourage the teachers to continue doing their job outside of the province, despite the economic challenges. It is worth mentioning, that 826 teachers received a donation of $155 each.
On Sunday, the 6th of March at 11:00 AM, the Italian consul general, Alessandra di Pippo, visited Khanke camp. The governor’s assistant in IDP and refugee affairs, Mr. Ismail Muhammad Ahmad, was one of those who were present, as well as the executive director of BRHA, Mr. Idrees Nabi Saalih.
The consul general was welcomed by Mr. Pier Dayan, the manager of Khanke camp, and his staff. During her visit, the Italian consul general ended the photography training course, which was started by RDO and funded by the Italian government.
On Thursday, the 3rd of March, the Board of Relief and Humanitarian Affairs (BRHA) and the executive director of BRHA held a meeting with the managers of the IDP and Refugee camps.
The monthly meeting was attended by the governor’s assistant in IDP and refugee affairs, Mr. Ismail Muhammad Ahmad; the executive director of BRHA, Mr. Idrees Nabi Saalih; the representative of UNHCR in the province of Duhok; the representatives of the directorate of general health, the directorate of education and the directorate of social protection. The meeting was also attended by the managers of the IDP and refugee camps.
The participants of the meeting discussed several issues related to the IDP and refugee camps. Special attention was given to issues concerning health, education , WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) and the living conditions of the IDPs and refugees.
It’s also worth mentioning, that there are 22 camps within the province of Duhok. The 22nd camp is currently under construction.
On the 18th of February, the day the “Student and youth union of Kurdistan” was established (decades ago), the management of “Kabartu 1” camp and the “Save the children” organization, gave presents to 63 students who were best in class.
On the same occasion 110 female members of the “Youth union of Kurdistan” received gifts; 5 packages containing sports clothing and accessories were given to 5 sports teams, and finally, several art expositions were held for the boys and girls at the camp.
In the presence of the governor’s assistant in IDP and refugee affairs, Mr. Ismail Muhammad Ahmad; the mayor of Akre, Mr. Maazn Muhammad Said; the executive chairman of the AMAR foundation, Baroness Emma Nicholson, and the director of general health in the province of Duhok, a health center was opened in communication with B.R.H.A. and with their support. The AMAR foundation funded the establishment of the health center.
It’s also worth mentioning, that with the establishment of the health center at Mamilyan camp, 4 laboratories, 2 dentists, a doctor specialized in MRI and 10 assistants will be caring for the IDPs in the camp.
