Because of the large amount of IDPs in the Province of Duhok and to be able to accommodate a larger amount of IDPs, B.R.H.A has started to establish Darkar camp in the City of Zakho. B.R.H.A is organizing and coordinating the operation, because of the large amount of IDPs in the Province of Duhok, the fact that many of them don’t reside in any of the camps yet and to be able to accommodate more IDPs. The organization HABITAT supports the operation monetary, and the organization PWJ and the Barzani Charity Foundation actualize the set up of the camp. The establishment of Camp Darkar has started on the 27th of December, 2015. Seven hundred cabins will be placed inside the camp for the IDPs of Sinjar. Initially, the camp will be 100,000 square meters (40 “donem”). Seventy thousand square meters of road will be established inside the camp and about 1,300 square meters of fence will be placed. One thousand square meters of water infrastructure will be placed and 10,000 square meters of drainage canals. Moreover, three wells have been dug and three water depots have been placed.
It is worth to note, that the establishment of Darkar camp is to provide the IDPs with proper accommodation. This way, they will be saved from having to reside in poor structures and will receive the proper help needed in an organized fashion. With the establishment of Darkar camp, the number of camps inside the Province of Duhok has become 22. Eighteen of these camps belong to the IDPs and four belong to the refugees.
