On the 4th of December, Mr. Ismail Mohamed Ahmed, the governor’s assistant in IDP and refugee affairs, and Mr. Serdar Sheikh, the mayor of Shekhan, visited Shekhan Camp to check on the finished project of maintaining and improving the basis of 1,004 tents at the camp. The project was made possible by UNHCR, BCF, ACTED, GIZ and GRC.
For the purpose of observing the circumstances of the IDPs from close by, the governor’s assistant, Mr. Ismail Mohammed Ahmed, visited Shekhan Camp on the 27th of November, 2018.
It’s worth mentioning, that due to heavy rainfall, about 30 IDP families at Shekhan Camp suffered material losses. The governor’s assistant promised that they will be compensated for their losses.
In cooperation with BRHA; PCF, ACTED, GRC and GIZ started the process of building the foundations for the tents and replacing old tents at Shekhan Camp. About 1,040 foundations will be built and the project will cost about $297,000. Moreover, about 5,000 tents will be replaced. The project will improve the circumstances of the IDPs, especially since the winter is coming. The project will also benefit in the way that about 240 IDPs will be participating in the realization of the project.
A delegation of the American consulate in the KRG visited Shekhan Camp on the 6th of August, 2018. The purpose of the visit was to observe the circumstances of the IDPs from close by.
On the 28th of June, several courses for improving the skills of IDPs came to an end. The courses consisted of topics on: sports, languages, media, coexistence and some other topics. Children up to the age of 18 participated in the courses, which were given at Shekhan Camp, Esyan Camp, Mamrashan Camp and Dawidiya Camp.
In cooperation with BRHA, Caritas started building 20 stores for the poor IDPs at Shekhan Camp and Mamrashan Camp on the 28th March, 2018. A draw was organized among the IDPs at the camp in order to decide which families will run the stores in order to be able to make a living.
For the purpose of raising awareness among the youth, POV had organized a seminar at Shekhan Camp in cooperation with the management of the camp. This happened on the 27th of March, 2018.
In cooperation with the managements of the camps; Shekhan Camp and Mamrashan Camp, the organizations VOP and UNICEF organized a children’s play on coexistence at both camps. The play took place on the 6th of February and was for the purpose of raising awareness on the topic of coexistence among the IDPs at the camps.
On the 28th of January a seminar was given at Shekhan Camp on “violence is not the answer”. During the seminar the speaker spoke on how to stop violence against women. The seminar was organized by the youth center in the district of Shekhan in cooperation with the management of the camp.
