Of those who were present at the meeting were, Mr. Ismail Mohamed Ahmed, the governor’s assistant in IDP and refugee affairs; Mr. Idrees Nabi Saalih, the executive director of BRHA and Ms. Tanya al-Jaff, the head of UNHCR Duhok. The governor’s assistant spoke about the preparations that are being made for the IDPs that will be coming from Mosul, by the governorate and BRHA. Among the things he also said was, that BRHA will be managing the new camps that are being created for the IDPs that will be fleeing Mosul.
The meeting was held on the 17th of October. Of those who were present was, Mr. Ismail Mohamed Ahmed, the governor’s assistant in IDP and refugee affairs. The governor’s assistant spoke about the preparations that are being made for the IDPs that will be coming from Mosul, by the governorate and BRHA.
Under the supervision of BRHA and in cooperation with the American organization CRS, the committee of the Off-camp IDPs in Aqra had started several language courses and other courses for the students among the IDPs that live outside the camps and the people living in the district of Aqra. After the courses came to an end, the end result of their hard work was displayed.
After the volleyball tournament had started a couple of days ago, on the 25th of August, the last match was played and the volleyball tournament came to an end. The team from the village of Banesur was able to win the final match of the tournament against team Qela Aqra and received some gifts. The tournament was held under the supervision of BRHA, the committee of off-camp IDPs and refugees in Aqra and UNICEF.
After two years had passed since the IDPs fled the area’s surrounding Mosul and came to the province of Duhok, the OFF-Camp IDP team that is connected to BRHA, organized an event wherein blood was donated by the OFF-Camp IDPs that live in Aqra. This happened on the 6th of August and was done in support of the Peshmerga. Among the donors were Muslims, Shabak, Christians and people from Rojava.
In the presence of Mr. Ismail Mohamed Ahmed, the governor’s assistant in IDP and refugee affairs; Mr. Idrees Nabi Saalih, the executive director of BRHA; and a number of foreign organizations, BRHA organized a workshop on how their representatives that work outside the camps can improve their skills. Mr. Ismail Mohamed Ahmed explained the role of BRHA in a speech and that the aim behind the workshop is for them to be able to perform better in providing services to the IDPs and refugees, especially those living outside the camps.
The foreign organizations that participated in the workshop shared their information and experience with the participants, in order for them to be able to provide even better services to the IDPs and refugees living outside the camps in the province of Duhok.
In order to get to know the situation of the IDPs from close by, a delegation from Germany, consisting of Mr. Thomas Kufen. the mayor of the German city of Essen; Mr. Peter Rinzak, an official from Essen; Mr. Jan Jessen, the president of Caritas Essen, and others, visited some IDP families. After that, the delegation and Mr. Ismail Mohamed Ahmed, the governor’s assistant in IDP and refugee affairs, visited Mamrashan camp. Caritas Essen has done several aid projects at this camp and the aim of their visit to the camp, was to see how the projects were going and for the purpose of some future project
